Dear Japan-America Society Members and Friends,
The Japan-America Society of Greater Austin (JASGA) thanks everyone who has donated generously to our Japan Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund over the past months.
We have been working hard to collect funds and help out the Japan relief efforts in this time of need since March 11th. We have had donation boxes at every event and program, and held two relatively big fundraising programs in March and April.
On behalf of the Japan-America Society of Greater Austin, we are pleased to announce that with the funds which have been generously donated to date, we have committed $9,000 to three Tohoku (Northeastern) prefecture governments (Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima) in Japan to provide both immediate humanitarian relief and long-term recovery of the devastated areas. Each prefecture government received $3,000. We would like to thank Citi Bank, NA for outstanding advice and financial services in support of the 2011 Japan Relief Fund.
As of today, total funds raised and pledged to the 2011 Japan Relief Fund total over $9,000. Additionally, we learned from the National Association of Japan-America Societies, of which JASGA is a member society, that the total funds raised by member society relief funds are now over $20 million.
We will continue to collect the donations and facilitate the fundraising events and programs, and plan to send funds in December to support over 1,100 young victims in Japan through Ashinaga, the NPO that has been providing financial aid for children who have lost parent(s) or have parents with disabilities.
