Thank you for participating in celebrating an outstanding year. Our corporate members, Texas Sake served craft sake and talked about the sake brewing process, and Asahi Imports talked about the Japanese traditional super healthy food, Natto and presented various toppings for serving natto.
Flutist, Erika Gossett, played beautiful Japanese classical pieces and McVey's entertained us with a video clip about their memories of travelling in Japan and climbing Mt. Fuji in the end of July.

Dear Friends,
Happy Thanksgiving week and Best Wishes for a Fall season!
|
The shrines and restaurants were crowded with children and their families celebrating the Shichi-go-san (7-5-3 years old) Festival in Japan over the weekend of November 15th. For the last week, I was in Japan and happened to pass by several shrines but did not see many children and parents.
However, the scenery visible from the Shinkansen bullet train was beautiful. The leaves on the trees were starting to turn color to beautiful reds and yellows everywhere, even where they were growing in tiny narrow spaces between tall buildings.
November 23rd, was the day Japan celebrates Labor Thanksgiving Day [Kinro Kansha no Hi], on which we express gratitude to one another for work done throughout the year. Labor Thanksgiving Day in Japan is a national holiday and many events are held throughout Japan. The event encourages thinking about the environment, peace and human rights. This special day also shows appreciation for an annual harvest and acknowledge all labors hard work.
There are no traditional foods such as the turkey and stuffing that are consumed in the States. Kindergartners and elementary school students often present their drawings and handicrafts to police officers at the nearest police station to thank them for their efforts.
