Shodo (書道 )-Japanese Calligraphy I (Beginning)
Instructor: Aya Koga
Shodo is Japanese traditional art of calligraphy using a brush (fude) and charcoal ink (sumi) on paper, wood plaques, and fabric. It includes Japanese Kanji and hiragana. Shodo originated in the techniques used for letter writing with its unique form of expression and developed into an art genre. This hands-on class will introduce the techniques of shodo.
The Shodo class is offered to two different levels of students.
Shodo I is designed for students who have no experience or who have just started leaning calligraphy.
The goal for Shodo I is to understand and master the basic rules and strokes of Japanese Calligraphy.
Once you have completed the Shodo I class, you are eligible to enroll in the Shodo II class.
