Registration is closed for this event

For its first Cultural Program Series of 2017, JASGA will hold a Shamisen performance by Ryuto Koike at the Bee Cave Public Library on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 from 12:00 noon to 1:00pm.  We will also enjoy Oshogatsu (Japanese new year) lunch box, green tea, sweets, and a short talk about Oshogatsu.

About the Shamisen Performance and Ryuto Koike
We have invited a shamisen player, 17-year-old Ryuto Koike, who is from Sapporo, Hokkaido. He has been practicing the shamisen for 13 years under master Takahito Honma-sensei.  He was inspired by Masahiro Nitta, who is also from Sapporo and who performed at JASGA's Oyama x Nitta Duo Tsugaru Shamisen Japan Benefit Concert in April 2011 for the victims of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami.
Ryuto won second place awards both for solo performance and group performance at the Aomori Tsugaru Shamisen tournament in 2016. He holds the 7th rank in the shamisen unit of the Hokkaido Min'yo (Japanese traditional folk songs) Association.
He will play traditional Tsugaru Shamisen pieces including O-Shogatsu songs.  It wil be a very rare opportunity to have a traditional Shamisen player in city of  Bee Cave, Texas.
This event is free and open to the public.
A Japanese lunch box will be provided (limited).  Reserve  your Obento (lunch box) from the bottom of this page by December 30, 2016.
