This class is for the total beginner and you will be reading Japanese with the Roman phonetic alphabet called "romaji". You will learn basic sentence structure and elementary conversation starters and replies. Hiragana, the Japanese phonetic alphabet will be introduced. Learn how to introduce yourself and give opinions. Students will cover lessons 1-5 in Japanese for Busy People.
*Supplement with the Hiragana + Katakana Workshop, a 6 week in-person and hands on course located at the AARC.

Required Textbook: Japanese for Busy People Romanized (Kana version also ok) ISBN-13: 978-1568364018, Textbook (available at Kinokuniya Austin and on Amazon).
Note: Students can choose Kana or Romanized versions. The Kana version is written using only hiragana and katakana, while the Romanized version uses romanized Japanese throughout. The Kana version might be challenging at first for those who are taking Beginning I and II classes, but it helps you to learn hiragana and katakana faster.
